Ripley Town U15 Girls host Welsh School

Posted by Kirsty Doyle on 1 November 2016

Ripley Town Under 15’s girls played a friendly on Saturday 15th October at home against Dyffryn Aman school from near Carmarthan, Wales. The Welsh school

The school came to stay in Derby on Thursday and played hockey and netball against Loughborough Grammar school. They then enjoyed a day out at Alton Towers on Friday and had been looking for a girls team to play on the Saturday, before heading home.

Dyffryn Aman school are very much into sport and their football team were very athletic and strong, being made up of footballers, net ball players, hockey players and a few county cross country champions. The game was competitive and both teams were evenly matched. The first half was end to end and Ripley  took the lead with a well taken shot across the keeper into the far corner. That was the end of the first half scoring and so Ripley lead 1-0 at half time.

Dyffryn made a good few changes at half time and scored two well taken goals early in the 2nd half, to take the lead. The game continued at a fast pace and was end to end with both teams looking like they could score again, but Dyffryn were able to keep making changes as they had 5 or 6 subs whereas Ripley had just the 1, and this seemed to give the school a good advantage.

There wasn’t any  more goals and so the Welsh team ended up 2-1 winners in a great game which was a great experience for all involved. The game had been played in a good spirit with both teams applauding each other at the end and having their photo taken together.

Well done everyone, there’s even talk of a rematch in Wales
